My son brought in his vehicle for check engine diag. The quote they provided for the part price only was an astronomical $941 and I didn’t feel right about it,… read more so I called the dealer to see what the part goes for $531 list. I called and spoke to Danny to see if it was normal practice for his shop to mark-up part prices so high (110%) from the $463 wholesale price he told me they were paying for the part. He said they only mark-up their parts 45% so I pointed out that if this was true then the part quote should had been $671 and not $941, he rechecked it in the computer and came back with the same $941 and stood by it. I then asked him to use a calculator to recheck the math and at that point he said it looks like his computer is having problems and that he would look into it. Hmm this is interesting and I wonder how long the “computer” has been having problems overcharging customers for parts? They also quoted me aftermarket parts at $674, so yes I called Napa to see their price $81. The main lesson here is for consumers to be smart and to question everything never take someone’s word, always get a second opinion / estimate and this is a prime example of why you should do so. I understand they are here to make a living for their family’s and I always try to support local small businesses but this type of dishonest / over pricing business practice make it hard to.

I’ve tried to let this go, but I can’t. As I enter my car’s maintenance records onto my excel worksheet, I’m again reminded of the stress of arriving at night… read more to pick up my car in August 2021.I was clear with my directions given verbally to Mike. I wanted the keys left in a specific location, and the car LOCKED. I arrived to find my car completely unlocked.
Also, I’m still not sure if their report that the timing belt was loose was correct. I checked with the dealership and the timing belt was replaced 26k miles and 3.5 years prior. But, I made the decision to have Danny’s replace it and the timing belt tensioner. The tensioner wasn’t replaced at the last timing belt replacement.
The shop also replaced the door lock actuator for a door that wouldn’t always lock/unlock. That resolved the problem.
Mike gave polite customer service prior to and while my car was in the shop. If I recall correctly, he was also apologetic about not following directions on my car’s security.
However, I can’t patronize a business that leaves me doubting their ability to follow important instructions.

I really wanted this to be my go-to auto shop. I have been to this shop a few times for minor repairs and diagnostics. However, this last visit rubbed me… read more in a very wrong way. I was told I needed a new belt and they recommended me get these other two parts that the dealership recommends replacing when replacing the belt. I was also told that these three parts can ONLY be bought at a dealership. I was told the breakdown of the costs and agreed to the job. However, afterwards I called Danny’s back and asked for all the part numbers so I can confirm the prices with the dealership. The person I spoke with on the phone said “we already ordered the parts” and seemed a bit scared to tell me the part numbers. I went ahead and called the dealership to confirm the prices of the three parts and things DID NOT add up. Was told by this auto shop that there were THREE parts coming from the dealership, yet, the dealership only confirmed TWO parts in the order. Meaning, they lied about all parts only being bought at the dealership. What was more sketchy is that the dealership prices that I was told over the phone by Danny’s automotive far exceeded the dealerships retail prices. One item that stood out the most was a part that was $140.34 but I was told by the shop that this part from the dealership was $369! I was confused so I called Danny’s automotive to relieve my confusion. Danny stated that they markup the dealership costs by DOUBLE and so does a lot of other car shops. Even then, the math did not make sense. He went on to saying that they always recommend their customers bring in their own parts since it is so expensive… I was not told this but was only offered the option of bringing in my own parts. I think it’s okay to mark up prices because they need to make money too… BUT BY 100%?! What a scam. This really infuriated me since I am a woman and as a woman we often feel very uncomfortable going into car shops because we can be taken advantage of for our lack of knowledge, or thought there of. After this experience I read other reviews and saw others having similar experiences as me. I’m glad that I did my own research and I hope every one will do their own research when getting work done on their cars. Hopefully I will find a trustworthy shop that won’t try to get over on people. SIDE NOTE: I DID NOT CALL THE DEALERSHIP STATING I WORKED AT DANNYS. THE SALESMAN ASKED ME WHERE MY PARTS ARE BEING SENT TO AND I SIMPLY STATED WHERE.

I decided to get a quote from another place and so I went to Danny’s Automotive on Folsom Blvd (closer to home). They gave me a quote which was cheaper for that and to replace the engine air filter and in-cabin air filter. I went to take it to them and they first inspected the “oil leak” and did not find one. I had not noticed any oil drips under my car either so I wondered. They quickly replaced the two air filters and sent me on my way. They said we only do repairs that are needed. I will be taking my car here from now on. So refreshing to know your car is in honest, capable hands.
